Just a brief update. I am still waiting to go back to Texas. It’s been 5 months. The wheels of justice in Johnson County turn slowly as it turns out. They finally set a hearing date, but that was just to determine the facts of the case. Court will be sometime in the next month. But it will likely be a plea bargain that the lawyer will deal with. He faxed me a waiver so I didn’t have to go back to Texas for the preliminary hearing. Won’t head back until perhaps next month. It is all very vague. But as always, my life motto is "when life serves you lemons, make lemonade." In the meantime, I have been relaxing at my sister’s winter home in Apache Junction. It’s really nice here. This is my office this morning: and yes those are binoculars for watching birds. Cactus wrens building a nest in the neighbors Saguaro cactus, Inca doves screwing on the back wall, that sort of thing. I am here alone until my sister flies in on Saturday. Very peaceful. Not a bad way to spend the winter as it turns out. I am plotting my return to South America. I signed up for Social Security and will get my first check in July. Look forward to continuing my travels whenever the powers that be allow it.

1. That looks like a nice place to winter over. You may have trouble adjusting to hostel life in South America. Good luck with the legal issues. I'm rereading the ride to the dentist thread and getting inspired once more to do a Mexico trip. My wife has come around on being OK with the idea. Thanks for the inspiration.

2. Hi SC,

Good to hear you will be heading south at some time in the future! Mexico is huge. Plenty of fun places to explore.

Best,

3. Tio, you hadn't mentioned how things are in Bassett. have you been up to see if the house is still standing? A plea sounds like good news. Undue care, $200 fine maybe? I am still 5 years off Social Security, but you never seem to run out of work anyway. Good deal, especially when they just direct deposit to your bank account. Let Uncle Sam buy your gas.

4. I haven't been back to Bassett in months. I have a nice fellow who will be mowing the lawn until I get back. The house has been through a 100 harsh winters. Like me it is a survivor.
I will report back how the Social Security vagabond motorcycle life goes. Should be fun.

6. I checked out your 2rods2wheels2up ride report. Great stuff!

You have the right idea amigo. A couple fishing poles, a beautiful wife and a GS. Life doesn't get much better. Just seeing the pictures on your blog and remembering my days in a hammock near Zipolite beach watching the sunset makes me smile as I type this.

Best luck in your travels. Hope to see you down the road.

7. Thanks John, it was great hearing from you via comments on our blog page and now today I seen the photo you posted of Jennifer and the leaky beemer. It makes me smile thinking how your ADV blog page last winter gave us such motivation to moto travel mexico and C.A. and that this winter you have had a moment of fond memories thanks to our blog page, what a great compliment that is to us and to yourself as a motivator, a full circle so to speak.
Take care John and when you roll south please let us know.
