I will be posting travel updates to this site from now on. My South American motorcycle adventure has taken a twist. Getting rear ended in Lima and breaking my leg has meant that I have had to end my ride report over at ADVrider.com and now will be updating my travels here.
When your travels take a different direction it is important to remain flexible and look at your options. With a broken leg I can't ride a motorcycle but I can drive a car. Sort of. Because my right leg is broken and in a boot, I have to sling my leg over the console and operate the gas and brake with my left foot. It took a little getting used to but after renting an automatic Toyota Yaris compact with unlimited miles, I have gotten the hang of it in the last couple days.
Rush hour traffic getting out of Lima was trial by fire. The drivers in Peru are the worst in Latin America. Cutting in front of you. The three wheeled taxis skittering left and right like nervous goats. It really takes all of your concentration in the congested cities.
more later.....

Good to see you posting. Was following on ADV. Now I'll follow here ;)
ReplyDeleteI am following as well (Northtrekker from ADV). It will be fun to see how you adapt to your temporary handicap and how four wheel travel suits you in South America.
ReplyDeleteHappy travels.
Hi John, I made the switch as well, gotta keep track of you. George (gmiles at ADV Rider}
ReplyDeleteHola Patron! Glad to see you as resilient as ever. Be safe out there. Reprogramming your brain to drive with the left foot seems like quite the feat. (See what I did there...) looking forward to seeing you back on a new bike in the future.
ReplyDeleteI'm in over here. Glad you are up and about.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I checked your blog, let the stories begin. Get better JD
ReplyDeleteGlad you're doing well John! Heal up and enjoy something different (as much as you can with the leg...). Post up when you can (and when you feel like it).

ReplyDeleteHave they cut that ballast stone off of your leg yet? You six week sentence has been served. I know the resident nurse kept you in line and stocked up on vitamin D and C so you have no excuse but to heal... ;-)
ReplyDeleteVery best wishes, Len
Have you been kidnapped and turned into a sex slave in the back woods of the Ukraine?
ReplyDeleteTio, I miss your updates. Praying that you and your Cosmonaut are well and happy, and that the healing is complete. Be of good cheer, your public awaits.
