Thoughts, memories and dreams are like clouds that drift through the mind. If you don’t take snapshots of them by writing them down, they drift off past the horizon soon to be forgotten. Very few things live beyond one’s lifetime. The wonderful thing about the written word is that it has the power to transcend time and space.
Blogs are a valuable way to capture the clouds of thought that drift through one’s mind (although the term blog does sound a bit like a rude contraction of barf and flog). Unlike travel stories and pictures sent home in the form of letters and postcards from far off lands, it is now much easier to send these digital postcards for others to read at their leisure anywhere in the world.
Blarfing is also an apt descriptor. Nice to see you JD. We head west to LA then North to the wet tomorrow. Looking forward to more of your posts, here or on ADV. Trusting all worked out in Johnson City.
ReplyDeleteHi Scootard,
DeleteI have been mostly answering questions over on ADV and neglecting this blog for a couple weeks. Good to hear from you. All is good. I'll be heading to Texas in a few weeks.
A nice way to put it, John and you are so right.
ReplyDeleteI will remember that on my trip.
Hi Nina,
ReplyDeleteYes, even if you don't post a ride report or blog, just make sure to take a lot of notes in a private journal and take a lot of pics before they drift away. Long distance riding will put you in an altered state. It is easy to forget the wonderful people you meet along the way and the great roads and sights if you don't write down names and places.
